The 20-Minute Vacation Workout
One of the biggest mistakes people make while traveling is believing they need to choose between their normal workout routine and doing nothing at all.
The reality?
Most vacations don't provide the time, equipment, or schedule flexibility you have at home.
And that's okay.
At The Gym MPLS, we encourage people to stop chasing perfect workouts and start focusing on maintaining momentum.
Because when it comes to fitness, consistency often matters more than intensity.
Vacation Fitness Doesn't Need to Be Complicated
Many people assume that if they can't complete their normal 60-minute workout, there's no point in exercising.
That's simply not true.
A well-designed 20-minute workout can:
- elevate your heart rate
- challenge your muscles
- boost your energy
- support recovery
- help maintain healthy habits
Most importantly, it helps keep you in the routine of taking care of yourself.
Why Short Workouts Work
When you're traveling, your goal shifts.
You're not necessarily trying to set personal records or make dramatic fitness gains.
You're trying to:
- stay active
- maintain momentum
- support your energy levels
- feel good
Twenty focused minutes can accomplish all of those things.
A Simple 20-Minute Vacation Workout
Set a timer for 20 minutes.
Complete as many quality rounds as possible:
10 Bodyweight Squats
10 Push-Ups (Modify as needed)
10 Walking Lunges Per Leg
30-Second Plank
30 Seconds of Fast Walking, Marching, or Jumping Jacks
Move at a sustainable pace and focus on good form.
Use What You Have
One of the best parts about vacation workouts is their flexibility.
No gym? Use bodyweight.
Hotel gym? Use dumbbells.
Beach? Use the sand.
Park? Use a bench.
The best workout is often the one you'll actually do.
Momentum Is Powerful
Many people lose progress not because of one vacation, but because vacation becomes an excuse to abandon healthy habits completely.
A short workout sends a powerful message:
"I still take care of myself, even when my routine changes."
That mindset often makes returning to your normal routine much easier when you get home.
Keep Moving This Summer
At The Gym MPLS, we believe fitness should support your life - not limit it.
