The 5 P’s of Meal Prepping
Fitness isn’t just about what you do in the gym - it’s also about how you fuel your body outside of it.
In reality, nutrition and training often compete with each other:
- Skipping meals to make time for a workout
- Skipping workouts to make time for meals
- Finishing a great session… then grabbing whatever is fastest
That’s where meal prepping comes in.
Meal prepping is simply preparing multiple meals at once so you have ready-to-go options throughout the week. It saves time, reduces stress, and makes it easier to stay consistent with your nutrition.
If you’re looking to build a sustainable routine, start with these 5 P’s of Meal Prepping:
1. Plan a Menu
Start by deciding what you’re going to eat.
Choose meals that:
- Fit your goals (high protein, balanced, etc.)
- Taste good (you’ll be eating them multiple times)
- Are realistic for your schedule
You don’t need to overcomplicate it - simple, repeatable meals are often the most effective.
2. Pick a Day
Meal prepping requires an upfront time investment, but it pays off during the week.
Choose a day where you can set aside a couple of hours to prep your meals.
Consistency here is key. The more you stick to your prep day, the easier the habit becomes.
3. Portion It Out
One of the most overlooked steps is portioning your meals immediately after cooking.
Pre-portioning helps you:
- Stay aligned with your nutrition goals
- Avoid overeating or under-eating
- Save time during busy days
It also makes storing, freezing, and reheating much easier.
4. Partner Up
Like training, meal prep is easier when you’re not doing it alone.
A partner can:
- Make the process more enjoyable
- Help share the workload
- Keep you accountable
Consistency is easier when someone else is in it with you.
5. Play Around
Routine is helpful, but too much repetition can lead to burnout.
Keep things fresh by:
- Trying new recipes
- Switching ingredients
- Exploring different flavors
You don’t need constant variety, but enough to keep things interesting.
